Happy Autumn!
/This stunning autumn photo is of our dear friend and founder of FAMO - Fascia Movement, Karin Gurtner. It has been 16 years since Karin, Martina and myself, first opened the doors of our Subiaco studio on Coghlan Road, in the autumn of 2010.
We were blessed with the exceptionally good fortune of being in Karin's orbit as her international teacher training organisation, art of motion, evolved into the world class education system for movement practitioners and therapists that it is today ️
It's been eight years since we moved into the community, running classes at the Shenton Park Community Centre, the Subiaco Spiritualist Church and a few other locations, before settling into the beautiful Scout Hall on Rokeby Road. We love it's high ceilings, limestone foundations, wooden floors and of course, the pictureque trees, that are right now, shedding their leaves in a beautiful, crunchy autumn display.
The seasons of life have changed with us and have forged this comfortable, genuine community of thoughtful movers. Among us over the years, there have been marriages, separations, tragedies, births, deaths and celebrations. For each of us, our practice has taken on more importance at times, less at others, but has been a place to come home to. Home to ourselves, and each other, each week on our mats. Building resilience physically and individually, but also spiritually and as a community.
It's gratifying to see old faces coming back sometimes after years and being welcomed by the smiling faces of those who remember them. New people are welcomed just as whole-heartedly and soon feel part of the camaraderie of class.
I want to acknowledge how grateful I am for Karin, for her brilliance, her integrity, and for bringing FAMO into the world. For Martina, who for even those who barely know her, can see what a beautiful spark of light she is, for the FAMO method itself; the life enhancing, awe inspiring movement practice that it is, and for each and everyone one of you, who have been part of our Sense of Space community in one way or another, whether for 16 weeks or 16 years. It's a beautiful thing to look back upon and realise how grateful you are for the connections you have made.
Thank you for being part of that.
